the teaser tidbit

PEOPLE.
A teaser for the upcoming film adaption of The Hunger Games was released at the VMA awards last night. OOOO I am excited! Though its barely anything, I think this tidbit is perfect.

  • I love the shot of her arrow flying into the mockingjay pin grapic.
  • I think the tiny bit of the score we heard (if it is the official score) is a little commercial and could be better, but it'll do.
  • I like that the people who have read the book can tell exactly from which scene in the book this clip is about

The official trailer, I belive, is to be released in November and so my guess, is that it will debut with the Twilight: Breaking Dawn, part 1 film.
( ekkkk. Like really? I'd rather not taint The Hunger Games with Twilight, but I guess its good for publicity...)

Anyways, I am excited beyond belief, and if you haven't yet read the thrilling, compelling, and extremely original pieces of literature, do. The Hunger Games in paperback is $ 4.94 on amazon.com.

Gardens

So yesterday, after a delightful morning run to the farmers market, I spent the afternoon weeding our backyard. Which, prior to the massive weeding session, looked a little bit like the jungle's cousin. We have prarie with all your usual prarie grasses, flowers and plants, which, like most grasses, flowers and plants are very tall grasses, flowers and plants. That overgrown mess, along with the trumpet vine that was invading the space of our newly planted rasberry plants, took most of our afternoon.

Despite all of the strenuous work that sometimes comes along with a garden, having one truly pays off. The prarie grows right in front of my parents' bedroom window and so when you look out, its a beautiful, up close view of the prarie. And of course, all of the tomatos, beans, flowers, raseberries and whatnot, definatly pay off.

Below is a gorgeously shot video of gardening from the blog tiger in a jar

Gulp

How many of you have seen Gulp, the largest outdoor stop motion animation ever?
Well, its pretty amazing how much work went into each frame and that it was filmed entirely on a Nokia N8.
Here's the finishing product, and then and must-see video on how the amazing video was made.

Where I've Been

HELLO there!
So I've been gone for the past two weeks, in well, I think you can guess the city by the picture below...

Yes, the ridiculous New York City.
I was on a mission trip with my youth group and we were working with Project Hospitality on Staten Island, helping in the food pantry, serving meals, unloading deliveries of food, and any other odds and ends. Oh, and we worked a sweet food drive at a local grocery store. It was a fabulous experience and trip, talking to the homeless people that frequent the pantry, listening to their stories and conversing with them. I learned so much from them. And the nights and day we took to visit Manhatten was wonderful. We took a tour of Ground Zero (a really emotional tour that I highly reccomend), went to the Rockerfeller Center and took a tour of NBC studios (we saw the set of Saturday Night Live!), went to Centeral Park & got ripped off on hot dogs ;D, went to the observation deck up high in the sky at the Empire State Building at night, and of course saw the one and only, Times Square at night. Oooo, I am definatly heading back the the city.

So these shots are all taken by Evan Joseph, who worked closely with a pilot to get the phenomonal ariel shots that show off New York City's glory from the sky.

around the web

This preformence by Florence is quite breathtaking. The lights in the backround give it a depth and add an ethereal beauty. And as usual, her voice is haunting and divine.

NOW FOR SOME FUN TRAVELS AROUND THE WEB

  • FREE music from NYLON. Yep, that's 20 free sweet songs. My three favorites (among the many)are Lose It- Austra, The Valley- Eisely, Cosmic Love (acoustic & live) - Florence + The Machine. Hurry though, they expire July 31, 2011.

  •  This next link is something I find quite amusing. Capitol Hill released its annual 50 Most Beautiful People on Capitol Hill. Yes, lets cheapen Washington even more. Anyways, for your own amusement

  • Dosen't ice cream coated in chocolate sound delicious right now? Well, Magnum ice cream has been released in the U.S and along with all of their advertising, I recently came across this awsome web game called Magnum Pleasure Hunt:Across the Internet. Just try it. I insist.

Fresh Squeezed Orange Juice

Hey everyone!
ahhhh. I just finished making fresh squeezed orange juice! It's quite a delicious treat to have in the morning. Last spring, when my family and I went out to Seattle to visit family, they had an electric juicer that they used every morning for orange juice. We were reeaaallly spoiled.
Anyways, when returned home, my mother decided to also get an electric juicer which  has since been getting frequent use, like this morning!!!

MMMMM. And I like it with some pulp too, do you?

the bliss of summer

My, its been a while since my last post! I hope you all enjoyed the ballerina posts (if you haven't checked them out yet scroll down now and make sure to watch the Janie Taylor ballet video). I know my posts have been rather spaced out and sparatic lately, but this week I'm hoping for a post every day until Saturday when I leave for... well, thats going to be my Friday post.

So, here is what today brings; summer bliss. These wonderfully nostolgic and romantic oil paintings by Janet Hill warm my heart and leave me in a pleasant mood. She is selling them on her etsy and I have been thinking of picking one or two up myself as they aren't outragestly priced and are quite delightful.

The Beauty of Ballet

So for those of you who remember last summer, when I had my Ballerinas in NYC posts (for those that missed, go to my archives sidebar and look under August, you'll find all 6 posts there), I am having a similar one right now! There are only going to be two posts this time, but they still capture the beauty of ballet. The photographer is Vihao Pham.

But first... I am opening the two posts with a gorgeous video of Janie Taylor a prima ballerina for New York City Ballet flitting about in Chole's dance inspired spring/summer 2011 collection. The video is quite mesmerizing and (I couldn't help but notice) Janie's hair floats about and is honestly also marvelous to watch.

P.S, if the video takes a long time to load or its a little sparactic, click here to watch it (or if you just want a bigger screen & smoother streaming)

So now for the photos

My favorite photo is the last one

Kings of Convenience

Kings of Convenience is one of my favorite groups that produces absolutly delightful chill, and invigorating music. The instrumentals are gorgeous on their own and the smooth vocals layered on top add to the magic. This is perfect lazy summer morning music.

Here are three of my favorite songs by them;
(one i couldn't get on this playlist is called Freedom and It's Owner off their latest album, Declaration of Dependence)

Get a playlist! Standalone player Get Ringtones

And lastly, here is my favorite song sung in french off their EP album Playing Live in a Room called Parr a Pluie. Its sends you to a calm place along, where you can zone out and follow the lull of the guitar & piano and savor to the silky french.

splitscreen love story

This creative and sweet video by James Griffiths is the winner of the Nokia Shorts Competition 2011.

Just some interesting notes;
-One person is in France (the girl who is on the left) and the boy I think is perhaps in England
-My favorite parts are :27 with the two people who walk across the platform and then 1:39 to 1:44 with the different street views and then the bicycles.

dream workspace

It has never been a desire of mine to be confined to an office and desk for work, but if my officespace looked like this...

...I might reconsider

The building, designed by Giorgio Possenti, looks like a fresh,  luxurious and modern, workspace haven. I love the floor length windows that display lush greenery, the crisp whiteness of the room, the sky high ceiling and most of all, the fact that the 'cubicle' if you will, is suspended far off the ground in midair. This is truly a dream workspace.

lets wake up our imagination

So tell me imagination...
...who are these people?

Are they... risk-takers, famous, freightened, carefree, royalty,  heartbroken, adventerous, being hunted, avarage, dreamers, or lovers?

Where do they come from, and where are they going?

What is it their heart most deisres?
